Accelerating Valley Line West construction in 2025

As a result of the extraordinary amount of feedback the City has received from residents in Ward sipiwiyiniwak and across the entire west end, plans have been launched to accelerate Valley Line West roadworks throughout the 2025 construction season.

While it will mean more lane closures and detours across the alignment, it also means a majority of the roadwork related to Valley Line West will be complete this year, allowing Marigold Infrastructure to fully open lanes and intersections much sooner than anticipated.

Valley Line West is the single largest public works project in our City's history and ranks as one of the biggest current infrastructure projects in Canada. Construction will take time, and patience is certainly appreciated. The result will be a state-of-the-art rail line, connecting the west end with Downtown like never before. Once open, the Valley Line is expected to carry more than 100,000 commuters each day, eliminating hundreds of cars from roads and leading to reduced congestion and pollution.

The Details

The plans involve three different phases, each focusing on a critical area of the Valley Line alignment.

PHASE ONE (April to July)

  • 104 Avenue (105-121 Street) reduced to one lane in each direction - starts April 14

  • Full closure of the Stony Plain Road/124 Street intersection - starts April 21

  • Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/156 Street intersection - starts April 21

  • Partial closure of the 87 Avenue/Meadowlark Road intersection - starts May 1

PHASE TWO (July to September)

  • 104 Avenue (105-121 Street) remains reduced to one lane in each direction

  • Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/142 Street intersection

  • Partial closure of the 95 Avenue/156 Street intersection

PHASE THREE (September to November)

  • 104 Avenue (105-121 Street) remains reduced to one lane in each direction

  • Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/149 Street intersection

Marigold Infrastructure Partners has committed to extending work hours and having dedicated crews at key intersections to maintain their schedule. By the end of 2025, most of the roadwork and trackwork should be completed, with many roads in their final configuration.
