Ward sipiwiyiniwak Update for November 2024

It's Coming!

Getting ready for winter

City of Edmonton, Winter

While the nice temperatures this week may not feel like it, winter is fast approaching,

and the City of Edmonton is ready.

From service levels to sandboxes, we have gathered everything you need to know to travel around the city safely this winter.

Living Together

Edmonton's Guide to Coyotes

Edmonton's urban coyote population is an important and beneficial piece of the local ecosystem. With the growth of our city, interactions between residents and these amazing animals have increased. While many Ward sipiwiyiniwak neighbourhoods that line our river valley have become used to seeing coyotes and other wildlife, we are receiving reports of sightings in communities more central to the ward as well.

The City of Edmonton maintains a robust and industry-leading coyote management plan. Take a moment to review the plan and ensure you are prepared for a coyote encounter.

When to Call 311

When a coyote makes contact with you or your pet or is exhibiting fearless or aggressive behaviour, always call 311.

It is also important to call 311 when:

  • A coyote is so injured or sick that it cannot move

  • A coyote is trapped in an area of your yard (or other private property)

  • Someone is intentionally feeding coyotes

  • You suspect coyotes have a den with pups in a residential area

A New Way to Pay!

Be ready to ride transit with Arc

Arc, the regional electronic fare payment system, is now available to all ETS riders. As a result, the sale of ETS fare products is being discontinued. This includes:

  • 10 Ticket Packs

  • Family & Day Passes

  • Monthly Paper Transit Passes

ETS is hosting a series of drop-in sessions where you can learn about Arc, get help, and set up an account on the spot. While there are no sessions scheduled in Ward sipiwiyiniwak, there are at five other locations around the city.

Booster Juice Recreation Centre in Terwillegar

Clareview Community Recreation Centre

Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre

The Meadows Community Recreation Centre

Edmonton Service Centre

The final, and most exciting, phase of Arc will be open payment, which will allow users to tap on and off transit using their mobile phones and credit/debit cards. This system is expected to roll out in 2025.

If you still have questions or concerns with Arc that the website cannot answer, you can call the Arc call centre at 1-888-302-0001 or visit the Edmonton Service Centre.
